Our RUGGED+ LED backlight system is the key to providing a cleaner, more durable, energy efficient solution to extreme industrial display implementations. Our Rugged+ backlight systems include:

  • Safe low-voltage, low EMI, solid state mercury free backlight system. Long Life Rugged+ LED backlight systems
  • Energy efficient, color safe, full range on board brightness control
  • Exceptional heat management and mechanical design to ensure 8 years of viable brightness when subjected to extremes in temperatures, thermal cycles, and intense mechanical shock or vibration.

Our Ultra Wide Temperature Rated (UWTR) Long Life LED (LL-LED) liquid crystal displays undergo thousands of hours of rigorous environmental testing and evaluation before we allow them to be rated RUGGED+. We first have to verify that the materials and structures inside the display meet the specification limit endurance testing with no material warping, de-lamination or performance degradation:

  • 3 weeks soaking at +90oC (194oF)
  • 3 weeks soaking at-40oC/F
  • 500 deep soak temperature cycles (+90oC to -40oC)
  • 5G vibration cycles (10-200 Hz) on each axis for 3 hours
  • 80G mechanical drop shock (10ms) on each axis

Next we verify that the display operates with high performance and in a manner consistent with long product life at the operational specification limits:

  • 3 weeks of continuous operation at +80oC (176oF) 
  • 3 weeks of continuous operation at -30oC (-22oF)
  • 3 weeks of continuous operation with the temperature cycling between +80oC and -30oC
  • 3 weeks of continuous operation at 40oC (104oF) with 85% humidity
  • Continuous operation under a 17 point electro-static discharge (150pF/330ohm) at +20KV and -20KV

Our RUGGED+ displays show better uniformity, contrast, color tone, response times, life brightness curves and MTBF under these conditions than Wide Temperature Range (WTR) displays which are specified to operate at -30oC and 85oC. Our displays do more than just "operate" under extreme stress they "perform". RUGGED+ displays are not Wide Temperature Range (WTR), but Ultra Wide Temperature Rated" (UWTR) to give you a high performing long life product.
